Looking back on yesterday, I realized that nothing really lasts forever. “The end” is only a matter of time, whether it takes thousands of years or not. Anything could happen tomorrow, today, in two hours, in a few minutes… Living at a time where we walk down the streets with our eyes stuck to our cell phones’ screens being curious about where other people are spending their vacations, why not look up and enjoy what’s around us? Yesterday I felt sad that I don’t have a souvenir picture with her. Growing up in Paris, I would always pass by her without cherishing her beauty and her story. Why? Because she was always there and the idea of Paris without her never crossed my mind. Next time I’ll cross her path, I’ll be thankful that she’s still there even if she looks different. And I will remember what she used to look like, so I can appreciate the way she stands that day even more.

I moved to Paris when I was 17. I had a tiny room in a strangers apartment not far from Norte Dame. I couldn’t speak French and I felt so alone in this city. I remember using Notre Dame as a visual landmark to guide me in this foreign city. It always made me feel safe and secure. And at peace. Later it was a backdrop for love and romance. Notre Dame is a holy place not just because it’s a church but because so many have gone and laid their sorrows, fears, gratitudes and prayers there for centuries. May Paris rise again from the ashes and become stronger. May our prayers be heard. May we all feel safety and comfort in this world of unknowns. #notredame #paris #jtaime ❤️
